DISCOVERY SCIENCE PLACE ANNOUNCES CHRIS RASURE AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Discovery Science Place is proud to announce the recent hire of Chris Rasure as Executive Director.
Prior to the position of Executive Director, Chris served as Interim Executive Director as well as the Director of Informal Science Education for the UT Tyler Ingenuity Center. Chris is a Tyler native and long-time member of the science education community in East Texas. He holds a Master of Science degree in Natural Sciences as well as Texas Master Science Teacher certification. Along with over 10 years of science education experience, he brings his passion, creativity and expertise in education leadership.
In his new role, Chris will be responsible for the organization’s daily operations and long-term planning- overseeing education, exhibits, community outreach, and donor development efforts.
“We are delighted to announce Chris as Executive Director”, said Jim Thompson, Board President. “He has a genuine passion for the organization and our mission”, he added.
The mission of Discovery Science Place is to ignite curiosity in young minds through fun, hands-on exploration. The organization was originally founded in 1991 by community volunteers who saw a need for a local science education center and museum for children.
Today Discovery Science place offers environments and experiences which make learning fun and relevant, helping shape the science, technology, engineering and mathematic leaders of tomorrow. Discovery Science Place is moving into its third year with UT Tyler as its operational partner. This relationship has allowed Discovery Science Place to provide more exhibits and expanded educational opportunities to students across East Texas.
“The mission of Discovery Science Place is very close to my personal mission as a science educator, and I’m very excited to lead the organization in igniting curiosity in the young minds of East Texas”, said Chris upon accepting the position.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff, Congratulations to Chris!
